Chapter 12

Isla got to her office at nine-forty. This was the first time she’d been this late for work. In fact, she’d never arrived later than eight-thirty, unless she’d gone straight to a meeting from home.

“Good morning, Cindy,” she said to their receptionist, smiling.

“Good morning, Isla,” Cindy said. “Everything okay?”

“Yeah. Everything’s fine. Thanks.”

Isla hurried to her office, feeling her cheeks burn. Was it obvious that she hadn’t had much sleep?

She bit back a smile, remembering how naughty she and Ant had been at Lovers’ Hideaway Cottage, then at her house last night. She was surprised she could walk straight. Muscles that she hadn’t used much ached a little from them trying various sexual positions.

“Hello,” Nadine said from Isla’s doorway.

“Oh, hi, Mum.” Oh, great. She was blushing again.

Nadine lifted a brow. “I was gonna ask if you’re feeling okay, since you’re never late. But I see that you are. I suppose Kerrod stayed overnight after you guys came back from Yellow Rock, huh?”

“Um…yeah.”

Nadine smiled. “Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend, then. Now, I’m sorry to drop this on you at the last minute, especially when you look like you’re still in the clouds, but can you take my place at Randy’s lunch today? Remember they invited one person from each of their shortlisted firms?”

Isla tried to clear her head of anything else but work. “Sure. But why?”

“I have an urgent meeting with Carl Santos’s employer. I don’t want to ask for a reschedule in case they drag it out again.”

“Okay, no problem. Anything I need to know before I turn up there?”

Nadine shook her head. “They said it’s a social thing, but I’m sure they’ll be doing informal interviews. Like Randy said before, he won’t give us a guide, so…I guess just be yourself.”

“I’ll try to impress them as much as I can, then,” she said with a grin.

“Thank you, darling. I’m glad you’re very relaxed. That’ll help.” With a big, teasing wink, Nadine left.

“Thanks, Mum,” Isla called out, chuckling.

Well, she still had two hours before lunch with Randy and the others. She’d better get some work done.
